Michigan PGA Wins the 2014 Fuller Cup

Lansing, MI – The Michigan PGA Team was able to hold on after the morning 4-2 lead in the four-ball matches to win 6 of the 12 afternoon singles matches and defeat the Golf Association of Michigan 10 1/2 to 7 1/2 in the playing of the 42nd Fuller Cup at the Country Club of Lansing.

Lee Houtteman from Manitou Passage Golf Club clinched the cup by defeating Greg Davies 5 & 3 in the second to the last match of the day. Other winners in the afternoon singles included Tom Harding, John Seltzer, Brian Cairns, Josh Fryer and Dave Kendall. Lee also teamed up with Brian Cairns from the Fox Hills Learning Center in the morning four-ball matches to secure 2 points giving the Michigan PGA Team the lead heading in to the afternoon.    

The other  Michigan PGA teams to win in the morning four ball matches were Dave Kendall & Scott Hebert, David Tokarsky & Shaun Bezilla and Josh Fryer & Kyle Martin.

The Michigan PGA retains the cup after defeating the GAM last year at Eagle Eye Golf Club. It now leads the series 33-7-1

The 42nd playing of the Fuller Cup is took place today at the Country Club of Lansing as the top 12 amateurs from the Golf Association of Michigan took on the top 12 PGA Professionals from the Michigan Section. We would like to thank John Lindert ,the host PGA Professional and all of his staff for hosting the event. We would also like to thank Bobby Jones for suppyling all of the uniforms for the event today.

The GAM team is selected through the use of the GAM Honor Roll  and the Michigan PGA selects its teams via its Player of the Year Points list.
