Michigan PGA Fall Meeting Well Attended!

The Michigan PGA held its Annual Fall Meeting on Monday, October 27. With approximately 260 Members in attendance, President Doug White welcomed everyone to Eagle Eye Golf Club. He also welcomed special guests Legal Counsel John Allen, Frank Chieppa, PGA, Player Development Regional Manager, former Executive Director Ken Devine, Brent Kerstetter, Sanford Financial Services and all Past Presidents in attendance.

Randy White administered the invocation and remembered deceased PGA member Tommy Valentine.

President White talked about the Senior PGA Championship being such a successful event once again, and the success of the Drive Chip & Putt events. Doug also thanked outgoing Board of Directors for their service to the Section.

Vice President Ron Osborne, along with Executive Director Kevin Helm, reviewed budget numbers through September, 2014, and Brent Kerstetter reviewed the Section’s investments.

Secretary Kevin McKinley explained the MSR requirements needed by June 15, 2015, and acknowledged and welcomed new members, quarter century members and the 2014 Michigan PGA Hall of Fame inductee Ken Allard.

Honorary President Gary Koenes oversaw the voting for five At-Large Directors. Those elected were Roger Bliss, Adrian Jolliffe, Doug Kreis, Chris Sobieck and Mike Sullivan.

The membership also voted for the 2015 Special Awards finalists. The following members will have an interview with the Special Awards Committee in February, 2015:

Frank Chieppa spoke about growing the game of golf through strategic initiatives and National programming.

The afternoon education consisted of Tom Shay, Profits Plus Solutions, who presented a 3 part session: If Patton Ran Your Business, Getting Extraordinary Results from Ordinary People and Characteristics of a Successful Business. Over 85 Michigan PGA members were in attendance.

Michigan PGA Junior Tour visits Forest Akers West!

East Lansing, MI- The Michigan PGA Junior Tour Fall Series wrapped up the 2014 season at Forest Akers West. Chilly conditions did not deter the players as both boys divisions posted some great scores. Taking the title for the final event in the Boys 16-18 division was Jagger Richard from Laingsburg with a round of 75 (+3). Finishing in second place was Owen Beyer of Dewitt one stroke behind Richard at 76 (+4). Caleb Nichols, Bruce, Owen Rush, Charlotte, and Bryce Hughes, Lakeshore, ON all tied for third place with rounds of 78 (+6).

The younger Boys 13-15 division showed what their made of with an impressive group of scores in difficult conditions. Taking the title in his very first event on tour was Curtis Hughes of Lakeshore, ON with a round of 75 (+3). One shot behind Hughes and finishing second was August Meekhof from Eastmanville posting a 76 (+4). Rounding out the top three from the Boys 13-15 division and fishing third was Michael Kee playing out of Howell.

Urban, Werkmeister, Schoenborn, Doan II win the All Star Pro Golf / National Car Rental Fall Pro Scratch

West Olive MI, – The Michigan Section wrapped up its tournament season Monday at the Wuskowhan Players Club with the All Star Pro Golf / National Car Rental Fall Pro Scratch. The team of Michigan PGA Professional Dan Urban from Prestwick Village Golf Club along with his amateur partners Tom Werkmeister, Mark Schoenborn and Mike Doan II shot a (-14 under ) 128 total in this scratch 2 of 4 best ball format. This was good for a 3 shot victory over the team of professional Mark Pawlowski from Hawk Hollow Golf Properties and his amateur partners Bill Schmidt, Jacob Hamilton and Bob Matthiesen.

This is the first time that the team of Urban, Werkmeister, Schoenborn and Doan has won this event. This was the third year that the Section has held this event with the previous year’s taking place at the Country Club of Lansing and Barton Hills Country Club. The event is open to both Michigan PGA Professionals as well as amateurs that live in Michigan. Each team must have a minimum of one Michigan PGA Professional on the team.Fall Pro Scratch pic
