Candidate’s Forum for Officers and District 5 Director

Officer Election
Nominations are currently being accepted for an officer position. Candidates nominated and seconded ten (10) days prior to the Spring Meeting will be included in the Forum. Candidates nominated and seconded after this date will still be allowed to run but not be included in the Forum. Officer elections will take place at the October 26 Fall Meeting. To date, Bob Bales has been nominated and seconded for the office of Secretary.

District 5 Director
Every nine years, Michigan has the opportunity to choose a District Director to represent the Michigan, Northern Ohio and Southern Ohio Sections. The Directors’ roles are as representatives, policy maker, planner and supporter, with a primary interest in the satisfaction of the members. The District Director is elected one (1) year in advance, then will serve a three (3) year term, and will also sit on the PGA of America and Michigan Section Board of Directors. As such, nominations are also being accepted for District 5 Director.

Keynote Speaker: Michael Breed

Michael Breed will be presenting on Tuesday from 8:30 am – 1:30 pm.  Michael’s recent announcement of the opening of the Michael Breed Golf Academy at Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point is the latest highlight of one of the world’s premier golf instructors. Michael received the highest honor of his career when he was chosen Michael Breedas the PGA’s National Teacher of the Year 2012.  In 2003, he was selected as a Top 100 Instructor in America by GOLF Magazine. In 2011, Michael was voted into the Top 50 Instructors in America by Golf Digest, now ranking 13th on this exclusive list, and #1 in the state of New York.

In 2008, Michael was asked to become the host for The Golf Fix on the Golf Channel. A new instructional show, it originally aired only in the United States. Now in its fifth season, The Golf Fix is one of the most popular original broadcasts for the Golf Channel and can be seen in over 80 countries.

In addition, Michael has worked with over 30 PGA Tour, LPGA Tour, Nationwide Tour and Senior Tour players.

leading golf magazine Today’s Golfer based in the UK. As an instructor he spends the majority of his time teaching elite players but also has a strong background in junior development.

James received the great honor of being invited to speak at the PGA of America’s Teaching & Coaching Summit in January 2015, grabbing the opportunity with both hands James delivered one of the most talked about presentations of the summit, receiving rave reviews from many including some of the most revered names in golf such as David Leadbetter, Chuck Cook, Jim Hardy and more.

 Jon Sinclair opened Sinclair’s Golf Training Center in 2008 to fulfil his goal of having one of the most technologically advanced training centers in the United States.

 Dennis Sales joins Sinclair’s Golf Training Center at Texas Star as one of the top up-and-coming golf instructors in the United States. He has been consistently recognized among the best in New England, where he taught until recently moving to Texas. His success can be traced back to his roots growing up in Cumberland, Rhode Island where he started developing a keen eye for detail and the understanding of how to build athletic skills from his time competing as an athlete himself.

Also presenting on Tuesday is Mike Johnson. Mike is a Senior Equipment Editor for Golf Digest. Mike will talk about what goes into the process of determining the Golf Digest Hot List of Equipment.

Mike Johnson has been with Golf World/Golf Digest since 2002 and currently serves as the magazine’s Senior Editor, Equipment. He has been with the company since 1996.

Mr. Johnson’s areas of expertise include golf equipment and technology, with a particular emphasis on the equipment and equipment trends on golf’s professional tours. In addition, Mr. Johnson covers several golf tournaments each year for the magazine, is one of the judges for Golf Digest’s annual Hot List equipment ranking. He appears regularly on Golf Channel’s “Morning Drive” program and co-hosts an annual Equipment Special on NBC. His work also has appeared in several books, including “Chicken Soup for the Golfer’s Soul.”

Your registration fee includes lunch both days, refreshments throughout the day, continental breakfast on Tuesday, and a cocktail party during an interactive segment from 5:00pm – 6:00pm on Monday. PGA members will also have the opportunity to earn up to (13) MSR hours with attendance both days; (5) Monday and (8) Tuesday. 

Michigan Section PGA Members, Apprentices, PGM Students: $140 – both days, $55 – Monday only, $100 for Tuesday only. The entry deadline is Friday, March 20th at 5:00pm. Registrations after the deadline will be accepted based on availability.
