Mick DeKorver and Jacob Losey sprint to the finish and win in extra holes!

Northville, MI – The rescheduled 2015 Sterling Cut Glass/Bushnell Golf Pro-Assistant Championship was held this past Monday, October 12th at beautiful Meadowbrook Country Club. Playing conditions were excellent as 27 teams competed in a 36 hole continual four ball stroke play event.

It was a battle all day long, but eventually the team of Mick DeKorver and Jacob Losey from Watermark Country Club stood victorious after the third playoff hole. DeKorver and Losey began the day even par after the first round as John Pershern and Kyle Martin lead the field with an impressive 68. It wasn’t until the final four holes in round two that the Watermark CC team turned the tables by finishing birdie, eagle, birdie, par. Their tournament low round of 67 would send them into a playoff against the Western Golf & Country Club team comprised of Jason Iding and Joshua Proben who would also finish with 139(-5).

The playoff began in thrilling fashion as both teams were required to make challenging birdie putts to extend the match. Both teams would par the second hole, and eventually par was the winning score on the third extra hole to claim the win for DeKorver and Losey.

Four teams would finish tied for 3rd place at 140(-4) which included Joseph Herbstreith and Steven Vecellio from Birmingham Country Club; Chris Sobieck and Scott Cook from Thornapple Pointe GC; Frank McAuliffe and Travis Dodson of Meadowbrook Country Club; and our first round leaders John Pershern along with Kyle Martin from Lochmoor Club.

The golf course was in great shape, and we would like to thank Meadowbrook CC staff members for their support, and allowing for us to host this rescheduled event on such short notice.

We would also like to thank and recognize our two sponsors Sterling Cut Glass and Bushnell Golf. We certainly appreciate your continued support and would like to thank you for teaming up with the Michigan PGA for this successful 2015 season ending tournament.

Meekhof and Jeffords are victorious in final event of the season!

Ypsilanti, MI – Polo Fields G & CC Washtenaw was the final location of the 2015 MPGA Fall Series this past Saturday, October 10th, 2015. Twenty-four juniors enjoyed perfect fall conditions as the roars from Michigan Stadium echoed in the distance.

In the Boys 16-18 division, Joshua Jeffords, of Onted, was at the top of the leader board with a great round of 76(+4). Jeffords struck early by recording a birdie on the first hole. He looked very comfortable throughout the round and finished with a cluster of pars to take the title. Jeffords had a great fall season finishing in the top 3 in three of the four tournaments. Congratulations on passing the PAT Josh!

Behind Jeffords and finishing in second place was Jeremy Roberstson, from Pinckney with a 78(+6). Robertson was consistent as he recorded 39(+3) on both the front and back nine holes. The smooth swinging Robertson had his lowest round of the season and truly saved his best for last.

Taking third in the Boys 16-18 division was Branimir Nikolich, out of Birmingham. It was only a matter of time before Nikolich would turn in a top 3 finish. He has an abundance of natural skills and it was great to see him on the podium in our final event with a round of 79(+7).

August Meekhof, of Eastermanville was back to his winning ways after posting a season low 74(+2) in the Boys 13-15 division. Meekhof’s round was up and down all day as he recorded six birdies, five pars, six bogeys, and one double bogey. He was certainly on the verge of turning in a unbelievably low round, but succeeded in finishing 1st and picking up his second fall series win. Well done August!

Finishing second in the younger boys division was Austin Fauser, of Clinton Township with a round of 78(+6). This was his first fall series event, and best round of the year. Fauser was able to record three birdies during his round, and shows a lot of potential. We look forward to seeing more of Fauser in upcoming seasons.

Rounding out the Boys 13-15 division was James Hill, from Lakeshore, Ontario. Hill posted a round of 81(+9) to overtake David Nunes and Justin Sui who were one stroke back with rounds of 82. Hill is a newcomer to the tour, but immediately showed that he belongs at the top of the field.

Thank you Polo Fields Washtenaw for your hospitality and support. Also, thank you to the players and parents for being apart of our program all season long, and look forward to seeing all of you next summer.

Extra Holes Required!

Milford, MI – Mystic Creek Golf Club was the host site and third installment of the MPGA Boys Fall Series this past Sunday, October 4th, 2015. Twenty-nine juniors battled in less than favorable conditions and featured first place playoffs in both age divisions.

In the Boys 16-18 division, Brendan Ludwig, of Milford, and Robby Golobo, from nearby Highland both posted a 78(+6) to compete in a sudden death playoff. After two holes play was at a standstill, but when Golobo was not able to respond to Ludwig’s par at the third the battle was over. Ludwig has now won two out of the last three tournaments and is having a sensational fall season.

Taking third in the Boys 16-18 division was Maxwell DeVooght, from Grosse Pointe Shores. DeVooght was right on the heels of our top two players, and carded a very respectable round of 79(+7). This was DeVooght’s second round in the 70’s this year.

The Boys 13-15 division featured the same excitement as the older boys. After regulation play August Meekhof, of Eastermanville and newcomer Rylen Matheison, from Kalamazoo were tied at the top of the leader board with scores of 77(+5). This set up our second sudden death playoff of the afternoon. In a similar fashion Matheison recorded a par on the first extra hole and Meekhof was unable to respond. Matheison looked impressive in his debut and we look forward to seeing more of him in upcoming seasons.

Rounding out the Boys 13-15 division and taking third was Adrian’s Grady Morlock. This was Morlock’s second top 3 finish this fall and season best score of 79(+7). Well done Grady!

The MPGA Junior Tour would like to thank the host venue Mystic Creek for all their help and support of this event.
