Michigan PGA Reunion Resort Pro Am presented by Sun Mountain

Coming up this January the Michigan PGA will hold its annual Florida Pro Am at the Reunion Resort in Orlando. This Michigan PGA Reunion Resort Pro Am presented by Sun Mountain is a four team Pro Am with one Michigan PGA Professional and 3 amateurs. The event will take January 29 – February 1 ,  following the PGA Merchandise show.

For those of you that have not been to Reunion Resort I think that you will really enjoy it. It is a first class resort located in Orlando 10 minutes from Disney. It is the only resort in the world that features three signature golf courses designed by golf greatest legends : Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Tom Watson.  You will have unlimited use of the practice facilities while you are there.  Teams will have the opportunity to choose a package for lodging in a Three Bedroom Luxury Villa or a Four Bedroom Superior Home.Watson9SevenEagles

Teams will play all three of their Signature Courses, the Palmer, Watson and the Nicklaus in a 2 net Best Ball of 4 format.  Men with a 10.0 index or 60 years of age will move up to a Middle Tee and Men with a combined handicap index and age of 80 will move up to a Forward Tee. 

The Amateur entry fee of $1695 includes:
(3) Three nights luxury accommodations for the team in a Three Bedroom Superior Villa

(3) Three rounds of golf on the Palmer, Nicklaus and Watson Courses

2015 Casa de Campo Pro Am presented by Linksoul

Dominican Republic, – The team from Pine Lake Country Club led wire to wire and captured the 2015 Casa de Campo Pro Am presented by Linksoul this past Saturday on the Teeth of the Dog Course at the Casa de Campo 7 tee box picResort.

For the second year in a row teams made up of 1 Michigan PGA Professional and 4 amateurs competed in this Pro Am at the Casa de Campo Resort in the Dominican Republic. Teams played both the Teeth of the Dog Course and the Dye Fore Course with a 1 best ball gross / 1 net two of the days and a 2 net best ball one of the days. The resort once again did not disappoint as golf courses proved to be wonderful and enjoyed by all in this beautiful Caribbean setting.

The event kicked off Wednesday night with the opening cocktail party / dinner at their Beach Club restaurant right on the beach. The next day teams competed on the Teeth of the Dog Course, which is ranked as the number one course in the Caribbean and 43rd in the top 100 courses, worldwide, by Golf Magazine. It was here that the team from Pine Lake Country Club of professional Paul Lehnert and his amateur partners; Tom Brown, Larry Sisson, Peter Schmitt, John Woch jumped out to their early lead with a round of (-16 under par) in the 1 gross / 1 net format.

The next day teams took to the dramatic Dye Fore Golf Course which has 7 cliff-side holes dropping 300 feet to the Pic 8Chavon River below. In this 2 net best ball format it was the team from Heritage Glen with professional Bill Wilson and his amateur partners Rick DePauw, Tim Cavanaugh, Phil Pletcher and Don Gunden that took home the low honors with a score of 127, ( -17 under).

This second round score of 127 pulled the team from Heritage Glen to within 7 shots heading into the final round that was back on the Teeth of the Dog Course. The 7 shot lead proved to much to as the team from Pine Lake held on with a final round of 135 (-9) under to win by 6 shots finishing at 392 for the tournament. The team from Heritage Glen picked up 2nd place finishing at 398 for the tournament.

With a final round of (-11 under) it was the team of professional Lynn Janson from Hastings Country Club and his amateur partners ; Joe Abraham, Dave Lombra, Rick Arpin and Paul Slosberg that finished in third.

The event concluded with the awards / dinner party at the La Casita Restaurant located in the marina of the property. Teams won money for a first or second place finish each day and for finishing in the top 3 overall.

We would like to thank our host, Casa de Campo Resort and all of their staff for such a wonderful week. Everyone had a great time and the resort continues to prove why it is such a great setting for our Pro Am.
