Drive Chip & Putt National Finals

Eighty junior golfers representing 30 U.S. states and two Canadian provinces have earned an invitation to Augusta National Golf Club to compete in the third annual Drive, Chip and Putt Championship National Finals, to be played on Sunday, April 3, 2016, prior to the start of the Masters Tournament.

The National Finals will be broadcast on Golf Channel. Live From the Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals Pre-Game begins at 8:00 AM ET. Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals Coverage is from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM ET.

Four of our own Michigan junior golfers have earned their spot in this event. Congratulations to Anika Dy, Tommy Sullivan, Kayla Layman, and Colin Norton!

Local qualifying for the 2017 Drive, Chip and Putt Championship begins this May, and registration is now open for boys and girls ages 7-15. Register today to get in on the fun, and follow the Drive, Chip and Putt social handles to keep up with all of the action of the National Finals on Sunday, April 3!

Michigan PGA Spring Meeting & Education Seminar

The Section held its Spring Meeting on Monday, March 21 with over 300 members and apprentices in attendance. President Ron Osborne welcomed everyone to Eagle Eye Golf Club. He also welcomed special guests Frank Chieppa, PGA, Player Development Regional Manager, Tim Marks, PGA, Employment Services Consultant, Dan McGuire of BlueGolf, and Hannah Davis and Paige Garber, Folds of Honor Scholarship recipients, and all Past Presidents in attendance. Jim Dewling delivered the invocation and remembered deceased member Ron Fox.

Vice President Kevin McKinley, along with Executive Director Kevin Helm, reviewed the Section’s investments as well as year-end financials.

Secretary Bob Bales acknowledged and welcomed new members and quarter century members. He also congratulated Michigan Golf Hall of Fame inductees Ken Allard and Steve Braun.

As part of the Patriot Golf Day report, Chair Kevin McKinley introduced Folds of Honor Scholarship recipients Hannah Davis and Paige Garber, who each gave an emotional speech and thanked PGA members for their continued support of the organization.

The meeting then went into a town hall format with Special Awards Chair Doug Kreis and award winners Ian Ziska, Jeremy Lathwell and Raquel Bryant talking about various best practices, etc. regarding merchandising, junior programs and mentoring.

Growth of the Game Chair Joe Simpson then recognized the Growth of the Game Committee, and introduced new staff member Chelsea Guoynes. Panelists Frank Chieppa, Stephanie Jennings and Glenn Pulice then spoke about the goals of the Committee: Strategic Plan that includes Golf in Schools, Females, Minorities and Millennials. Frank then talked about PGA Junior League, DCP, Get Golf Ready.

Dan McGuire of BlueGolf gave a brief overview of the new tournament software. He also talked about the new app which will feature a Member Directory that you can search by Member Name or Facility and see all members at the facility.

The last portion of the town hall featured Incoming District 5 Director John Lindert updating the membership on National activities, and President Osborne, Vice President McKinley, Secretary Bales and Past President Doug White each talking about their own experiences as it related to serving as an Officer and Board Member.

The afternoon education portion featured Mike Connaway, noted author, speaker and ‘coach’ who trains and motivates athletes, entrepreneurs and business leaders, to maximize their potential. Mike spoke about team building, having a world class mindset, and defeating self-sabotage – great for golf, business and everyday life

The second portion of the afternoon Tim Marks and John Allen focused on the components of a legally binding employment contract and how PGA professionals can put a contract in place and use it to their advantage.

Michigan Open Championship presented by the LaFontaine Automotive Group

Welcome to the 2016 Michigan PGA Tournament Season. I just wanted to let everyone know that registration is now available for the 99th Michigan Open Championship presented by LaFontaine Automotive Group. Please mark your calendars as the Championship will take place on June 13-16, 2016.

New Registration Software
The Michigan Section has switched over to a BlueGolf Tournament Software so the Registration process may look a little different. For those of you that are either Amateurs or Non PGA Professionals you will enter as a Non Member. To register please click on the Section Tournament Schedule under the Events tab ,from there it will bring up the schedule and you will select Register next to the Michigan Open Qualifier that you wish to enter. You can also view the Tournament Schedule by clicking HERE.

Championship Site
We are excited as this will be the third year that the Championship will be held at Prestwick Village Golf Club, which is located just north of Milford in Highland Township. Prestwick Village Golf Club provided a great championship atmosphere the last two years and will do the same again this year. Award-winning and internationally renowned architect Ron Garl designed the championship course. The club’s stellar and expansive 26-acre practice facility was selected as a 2012 Golf Range Association of America Top 50 Range in the Private Category by PGA Magazine.

Amateur – $180
PGA Professional – $205

Eligibility:
Male Golfers who have established and maintained a Domicile in the State of Michigan (60) sixty days prior to the Championship or any Michigan Section Member in good standing having been employed for no less than (60) sixty days at a recognized golf facility prior to the Championship. Life Member / Retired Member must be a member of the Michigan Section 60 days prior to the Championship. Upon request, must provide three (3) documents to prove Domicile.

Exempt Players:
As a reminder, exempt players MUST register by the Wednesday, May 18th deadline. For a list of exempt players please see the last page of the ENTRY FORM

Michigan Section Tournament Registration is now Open !

East Lansing ,MI -We are excited to announce that registration is now open for all Michigan PGA Section events. We have a great schedule of events and the top facilities in the state again for the 2016 season including the Yamaha Golf Cars / Ahead Pro – Pro at Arcadia Bluffs Golf Club.

Please note that we did switch over this year to a new BlueGolf Tournament software ,so the registration process will look a little different. Next to each event you can select the Info or the Register tab .Please note that anyone that is not a Michigan PGA Member or Apprentice should sign in by selecting ” I am not a member”. All PGA Members and Apprentices should have received an email with their login info.

 We look forward to another great first event at Oakland University – Sharf Course with the Club Car Spring Scramble presented by Evolve Golf. This will be the first year that Evolve Golf has been a Section sponsor. This event has sold out the past 5 years and we look to sell it out again this year.

We are excited to have Arcadia Bluffs Golf Club back on the schedule this year as the Yamaha Golf Cars / Ahead Pro – Pro Championship will take place there on June 20th. Ahead is a new sponsor of this event and joins Yamaha Golf Cars Plus that is back for a second year as the sponsor of this event.Arcadia Bluffs

The 2016 Michigan Open Championship presented by the Lafontaine Automotive Group returns to Prestwick Village Golf Club and will take place on June 13 – 16, 2016.  We are excited to not only be back at the Prestwick Village Golf Club but to have the LaFontaine Automotive Group back as the presenting sponsor.

After a great event last year the Michigan PGA Professional Championship returns to Egypt Valley Country Club. The event will take place August 15 – 17 and will once again use both the Ridge and Valley Courses.

This year a new Club Car Pro – Official event presented by the DLL Group has been added to the scheduDearborn 18le and will take place at Dearborn Country Club on Thursday, September 8. This will be an 18 hole ( 1 Net Best Ball of 2 Pro Am). Teams will be comprised of one MI PGA Professional or Apprentice and one Official from the same facility. Professionals may bring and form teams with up to 3 Officials from the same facility. Officials may be: Course Owner, Club Manager, Club Officer, Board Member, Handicap / Tournament / Membership / Greens Committee Chairman, Golf Course Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent. The costs will be $105 per player and will include lunch, golf ,cart, range, tee gift, prizes and a cocktail party after golf.

The National Car Rental Pro Am, will be a 36 hole event that will take place at Detroit Golf Club on July 5th . This event ( formerly the Taylor Made Pro Am) is a Pro Am format where the teams are entered into both Gross and Net Divisions.

Nike is back for the 7th year in a row as the title sponsor of the Nike Golf State Pro Am. This event will take place on June 6th – 7th at Boyne Highlands on the Heather and Hills courses.

All Star Pro Golf
is back and joined by a new section sponsor – Black Clover as the title sponsors of the Fall Pro Scratch. This event will take place at the Country Club of Jackson on October 3rd.

The Oakley Pro – Junior Championship will take place at Eagle Eye Golf Club this year on Sunday, August 7th. We are excited to have Oakley on board as a new sponsor for this event. The format is once again a Shamble with one professional and 3 juniors ages 12-18.
