We are proud to announce our two-time past President, Jim Dewling, of Total Golf Inc., will receive the 2016 Lyle Leeke Distinguished Service Award from the Michigan Golf Course Owners Association at their awards banquet on November 29th.
The Lyle Leeke Distinguished Service Award is named after one of the founders of the MGCOA and a gentleman who helped to create a voice for Michigan golf course owners. The recipient of the award is an individual or company who has displayed distinguished service to the MGCOA and the golf industry.
Dewling has spent much of his life in golf. He studied in Michigan State University’s hospitality and hotel management curriculum, graduated with a business degree in 1966 and became a PGA of America Golf Professional. After seven years at Birmingham Country Club as an assistant professional he moved into management. He worked for Joe and Steve Slavik at the new Great Oaks Country Club in Rochester for 10 years, and then formed Total Golf Inc. He has owned and or managed more than 40 properties and co-designed three golf courses.
He is a past-president of the Michigan Section of the PGA and a trustee of the Michigan Golf Hall of Fame. Dewling has been a member of the MGCOA board of directors since 2003 and is on the government affairs committee. He was inducted into the Michigan Golf Hall of Fame for his contributions to golf in 2009.
