Team from Western Golf & CC wins the All Star Pro Golf / National Car Rental Fall Pro Scratch

Lansing, MI – The Michigan PGA Section wrapped up its 2017 season with the All Star Pro Golf / National Car Rental Fall Pro Scratch on Monday at the Country Club of Lansing. 27 teams competed in this scratch 2 best ball of four format open to Michigan PGA Professionals and Apprentices as well as amateurs that live in Michigan.
The perfect weather with mid- summer like temps and no wind gave way to some really low scores. It was the team of Michigan PGA Professionals from Western Golf & Country Club – Scott Schulte, Steve South ,Josh Proben and PGA / PGM Ferris State student Ben Proben that took home top honors Monday finishing with a 129 total ( -15) under par, good for a one shot victory. It was a great team effort with 13 birdies, 1 eagle and no bogies on the card to pick up their first Fall Pro Scratch title. This win also gives each of these players a 5 year exemption into the Michigan PGA Tournament of Champions.

Coming in second just one shot back with a 130 total was the team of professionals : Matt Thompson from Marshall Country Club, Josh Burt from Gull Lake Country Club, Mark Versteeg-Lytwyn from Island Hills Golf Club and Eric Spencer from The Nightmare GC.

Don’t Rory Be Happy!

Don’t Rory Be Happy!

Tim Strickland & Brian Stange captained Michigan’s top PGA Jr. League team, Don’t Rory be Happy this year. We would like to congratulate Tim & Brian on their success this season! Don’t Rory Be Happy made it to the MidEast Regional Championship this season and played the best golf of the post season. While they faced a very tough competitor, Captains, Tim & Brian couldn’t be more proud of their team. This year Tim & Brian were able to add 12 more players to their PGA JLG roster, going from 20 players in 2016 to 32 in 2017! They welcomed players of any ability. Tim liked to move the kids up through the ranks at his facility getting them started with SNAG golf, then the summer camps and graduating to PGA JLG. This is a perfect example of how to continue to deepen the engagement of your juniors at your facility! Tim & Brian have even started an after school program for middle schoolers and currently have 15 kids involved! Tim & Brian love seeing their kids & juniors enjoy the game of golf. They also love seeing how involved and supportive the family members are of their young competitors. Tim & Brian would love to get more Ann Arbor facilities involved with PGA JLG and welcome any potential captains to speak to them about joining their League. While we all understand how busy every golf professional is during the summer & adding yet another program can be overwhelming it is very rewarding to carve out time to watch these youngsters develop through PGA Jr. League Golf. Please help us congratulate Tim & Brian on all of their success this season.
