Watch The Four Michiganders Compete at the Drive, Chip & Putt Championship! Sunday April 1st

Michigan will have four junior golfers competing this Sunday, April 1st at the National Drive, Chip & Putt competition, held at Augusta National. The Broadcast will start on Sunday, April 1st at 8:00am EST on the Golf Channel. You can also watch the live stream by Clicking Here.

Our four competitors will be Georgia Bosart, Girls 10-11, Allison Cui, Girls 12-13, PJ Maybank III Boys 12-13, Josh Lavely, Boys 14-15.

 

Georgia Bosart of Clarkston, Michigan came in first place in the Girls 10-11 Division with a dominating lead over the field. She scored 131 points and won by 23 points. Georgia entered her Local Qualifier at Hawk Hollow where she was able to secure first place and advance to the Sub Regional at Oakland University. At Oakland University Georgia placed in second and was the final qualifier for her age division to advance to Muirfield Village. After her dominating win at Muirfield Village, Georgia will now advance to Augusta National to compete with 10 other girls ages 10-11.

 

 

 

 

 

Allison Cui of Lansing, Michigan came in first place in the Girls 12-13 Division by one point. Allison Scored 134 points at Muirfield Village. She scored 34 points in Driving, after hitting one outside the grid. She scored 40 points in chipping. Allison had 74 points going into the putting; she needed to score big in order to advance. She sunk her first put, 25 more points. Her second putt was within one foot of the hole scoring her 20 more points. Allison headed into the last putt, knowing she needed to get the ball within 2 feet of the hole & she did just that, scoring her 15 more points for a grand total of 60 points in putting. Allison’s putting won her the competition.

 

 

 

 

 

PJ Maybank III of Cheboygan, Michigan came in first place in the Boys 12-13 Division by 8 points at Muirfield Village. PJ started the day with a commanding lead of 51 points in the Driving station. All three of PJ’s drives were between 220-230 yards, scoring him 17 points each. PJ was able to hold onto that lead throughout the day. PJ came in first place in the Driving competition, fourth place in the Chipping competitions and third place in Putting. PJ entered his Local Qualifier at Bay Meadows where he advanced to Battle Creek Country Club before competing at Muirfield Village. Now he will move onto the grand stage of Augusta National to compete against 10 other boys ages 12-13.

 

 

 

 

 

Josh Lavely of Kewadin, Michigan came in first place in the Boys 14-15 Division by 5 points at Muirfield Village. Josh, son of PGA Member Larry Lavely of A-Ga-Ming Golf Resort, scored 38 points in Driving, 35 points in Chipping and 60 points in Putting for a total of 133 points. Josh started his journey to Augusta at the Local Qualifier at Bay Meadows. Josh was able to secure second place which bought him a ticket to the Sub-regional at Battle Creek Country Club where Josh scored an AMAZING 166 points just to put this in perspective there is only a maximum of 225 points available. Josh is amongst the youngest within his age division making this win even more special. Josh is currently only 13 but will turn 14 before the National Championship at Augusta. Josh has performed well over the last three competitions and we are excited to see his scores among the other 10 boys 14-15 year old boys at Augusta.

 

 

 

 

Each National Qualifier will receive a complementary trip for themselves and one parent to Augusta National. The Drive, Chip & Putt competitions are completely free to compete in. 2018 Michigan PGA Spring Meeting & Education Seminar

The Section held its Spring Meeting on Monday, March 26 with over 200 members and apprentices in attendance. President Kevin McKinley welcomed everyone to Eagle Eye Golf Club, and welcomed special guests Chris Coffman, The Ally Challenge, Hannah Davis, Folds of Honor Scholarship Recipient, Kim Shafer, Regional Sales Manager-PGA Jr. League, Todd Smith, PGA Career Services Consultant, Alex Wassom, who sang the national anthem, the Honor Guard from VFW Post 7309 in Mason, Michigan and all Past Presidents in attendance.

After the ceremony from the Honor Guard, Mr. Wassom sang a wonderful rendition of our national anthem. Raquel Bryant then delivered the invocation and remembered deceased Members Curtis George, Stan Jawor and Larry Tomasino.

President McKinley apprised the Membership on the Strategic Plan and some of the already finalized goals and objectives. He explained that not all committee chairs are board members, but an officer or board member sits on each committee to report back to the board. Committee chairs were picked based on the best leader to make change for that committee. He also disclosed to the membership that District 5 Director John Lindert is one of four candidates running for National Secretary.

Vice President Bob Bales, along with Executive Director Kevin Helm, reviewed the Section’s investments as well as year-end financials.

Secretary John Pershern acknowledged and welcomed new members and quarter century members. He also congratulated Michigan Golf Hall of Fame inductee Tom Harding.

PGA Career Consultant Todd Smith introduced himself and reviewed a brief PowerPoint presentation. He urged the membership to complete the 2018 Compensation Survey by March 31.

PGA Jr. League Regional Manager Kim Shafer also introduced herself and reviewed exciting new items for 2018.

The meeting then went into a town hall format with President McKinley introducing Folds of Honor Scholarship recipient Hannah Davis, who gave a poignant speech and thanked PGA members for their continued support of the organization.

Tournament Chair Ian Ziska, along with Jim Deiters, Jason Guss and Cody Haughton, talked about what playing in events means to them.

Growth of the Game Chair Stephanie Jennings then recognized the Junior Grant Program of the Year Award to Pam Phipps and Adult Grant Program of the

Adult Grant of the Year Award recipient Brian Kotowicz, PGA

Year Award to Brian Kotowicz. Along with Kotowicz and Phipps, they were joined by Andre Pillow and Kelly Sivier talking about various best practices, etc. regarding junior programs and how they tailor their respective programs to their participants.

The last portion of the town hall featured District 5 Director John Lindert and National Secretary Candidate, along with Jim Dewling, Andre Pillow and Mike Rey, talking about their own experiences as it relates to governance and leadership.

About 53 invited guests had Lunch with the President, an inspiring presentation by President McKinley who discussed the benefits of leadership, leadership opportunities and how to be an all-star board member.

The afternoon education portion featured Dawes Marlatt, PGA Master Professional, Senior Director for Education and Organizational Development at PGA of America, and Todd Sammons, Director, Member Education at PGA of America, who talked about ideas and the new direction within the PGA of America’s Education Department. A large part of the seminar had attendees participate in PGA Business Management Simulations that delivered real world scenarios aligned with a primary focus on improving marketing, sales, leadership, revenue management and financial management at a golf facility.

Michigan PGA Tournament Registration begins March 5 at 9:00am !

We are excited to announce that registration for the 2018 Michigan Section Tournament Season begins this Monday, March 5th at 9:00am ! A big thanks to all of our host facilities as we have another great lineup of sites this year.

Section Event Registration
You can register online by clicking on the  Online Section registration link on the right or login in the Section Tournament Players Club box if you are a PGA member.  If you are not a PGA Member and are signing up for an Open event please click on the Section Tournament Schedule under the Events tab and then click on the actual event and register as a non member.

Due to PCI Compliance the Section can no longer take credit cards over the phone or on faxed or mailed in entries. All credit card payments must be done online.

The 101st  Michigan Open Championship presented by Yamaha Golf Cars Plus is returning to Grand Traverse Resort and  will take place on The Bear –  June 11-14, 2018. Section Schedule / Sponsors
We are excited about the 2018 season and the tournament schedule. We look forward to another great first event on April 30th  at the Marriott @ Eagle Crest Resort with the Club Car  Spring Scramble.

The Club Car / Midwest Golf & Turf team will also sponsor the Midwest Golf & Turf Pro Am at The Fortress on July 23rd . This event  is a Pro Am format where your team is entered into both Gross and Net Divisions.

The  Yamaha Golf Cars Plus / Bushnell Pro – Pro Championship will take place on  Monday, May 7th at Franklin Hills Country Club and Bloomfield Hills Country Club. Teams will play both courses  with am / pm shotguns at each course.

After a great first year the  Michigan PGA Professional  Championship  returns  to Flint Golf Club and will take place on August 20-22, 2018.  Participants will also be competing for 9 qualifying spots for the 2019 PGA Professional Championship at this event.

We are excited to announce that Adidas is the new sponsor of the Adidas State Pro Am at Boyne Highlands. Adidas will have a mobile pro shop set up onsite for participants to pick out their tee gifts. This event will take place on June 4th-5th on the Heather and Hills courses.

The year Levelwear  will join Sterling Cut Glass and Evolve Golf   as sponsors of the Pro – Assistant Championship. The event is heading to Forest Dunes and will take place on the original course there on Tuesday, September 4th.

St Andrews Products will join Winston Collection as co – sponsors of the Senior Junior Championship  that will take place on September 24th at the Country Club of Jackson.

The Michigan PGA Section Match Play presented by the PGA Tour  moves to Eagle Eye Golf Club and will take place on October 1-2. The final 16 at this event will once again qualify through your respective Chapter or Senior Organization.

The Section events in  Michigan will wrap up with the year end All Star Pro Golf / Earth Networks Fall Pro Scratch at Barton Hills CC on October 8th.

The  Oakley Pro – Junior Championship  will take place at Forest Akers West at MSU this year on Sunday, August 12th. We are excited to have Oakley back again as the sponsor for this event. The  format is once again a  Shamble with one professional and 3 juniors ages 12-18.
