4 Michigan juniors advance to the 2016 Drive, Chip, & Putt National Finals

Bath, MI – Michigan will have four juniors competing in the 2016 Drive, Chip, & Putt Finals held at Augusta National Golf Club on April 3, 2016 during Masters week. Anika Dy, Tommy Sullivan, Kyla Layman, & Colin Norton finished first in their respective age division this past weekend at Medinah Country Club in Medinah, Illinois.

Anika Dy (Girls 14-15), of Traverse City, won the Girls’ 14-15 division with a final score of 157. Dy, who is one of seven participants who will return to the National Finals for a second time, had the best score of anyone at Medinah on Saturday (157) after finishing first in chipping and putting and tied for second in driving.

Kyla Layman (Girls 7-9), of Traverse City, won the overall chipping competition with a score of 35 and a total score of 102. Layman will continue competing in the Girls 7-9 division next April.

Tommy Sullivan (Boys 14-15), of Grosse Pointe, took first overall in driving and chipping for his age group. His 144 tournament total far exceeded the rest of the field.

Colin Norton (Boys 7-9), of Jackson, dominated the chipping portion and hung on to the lead by 1 point over fellow Michigan native Max VanderMolen to earn his ticket to Augusta.

All four juniors qualified thru  local qualifiers and scored well enough to move on to the sub-regional event. From there, they traveled to Medinah in hopes to qualify for the 2016 National Finals. 2016 will mark the third installment of the Drive, Chip, and Putt finals after being founded in 2013 by the Masters Tournament, United States Golf Association and The PGA of America. The National Finals will be broadcast on the Golf Channel the week before The Masters Tournament begins.
