4 Michiganders head to Augusta National for the Drive, Chip & Putt Finals

 

Michigan was well represented at the Regional Drive Chip & Putt competition hosted at Muirfield Village. Four out of eight qualifiers for the National Drive Chip & Putt competition, to be hosted at Augusta National are Michigan Locals. Georgia Bosart, Allison Cui, PJ Maybank III, Josh Lavely will advance to compete on the Sunday before the Masters at Augusta National. These four individuals went through three very competitive rounds of qualifying to make it to this stage. Tens of thousands of kids enter into the Local Qualifiers throughout the nation, and only 80 will make it to Augusta. Michigan is proud to send four of our top competitors to enjoy a day full of competition, and fun amongst the top golf legends.

 

Georgia Bosart of Clarkston, Michigan came in first place in the Girls 10-11 Division with a dominating lead over the field. She scored 131 points and won by 23 points. Georgia entered her Local Qualifier at Hawk Hollow where she was able to secure first place and advance to the Sub Regional at Oakland University. At Oakland University Georgia placed in second and was the final qualifier for her age division to advance to Muirfield Village. After her dominating win at Muirfield Village, Georgia will now advance to Augusta National to compete with 10 other girls ages 10-11.

Allison Cui of Lansing, Michigan came in first place in the Girls 12-13 Division by one point. Allison Scored 134 points at Muirfield Village. Allison scored 34 points in Driving, after hitting one outside the grid. She scored 40 points in chipping. Allison had 74 points going into the putting; she needed to score big in order to advance. Allison sunk her first put, 25 more points. Her second putt was within one foot of the hole scoring her 20 more points. Allison headed into the last putt, knowing she needed to get the ball within 2 feet of the hole & she did just that, scoring her 15 more points for a grand total of 60 points in putting. Allison’s putting won her the competition.

PJ Maybank III of Cheboygan, Michigan came in first place in the Boys 12-13 Division by 8 points at Muirfield Village. PJ started the day with a commanding lead of 51 points in the Driving station. All three of PJ’s drives were between 220-230 yards, scoring him 17 points each. PJ was able to hold onto that lead throughout the day. PJ came in first place in the Driving competition, fourth place in the Chipping competitions and third place in Putting. PJ entered his Local Qualifier at Bay Meadows where he advanced to Battle Creek Country Club before competing at Muirfield Village. Now he will move onto the grand stage of Augusta National to compete against 10 other boys ages 12-13.

Josh Lavely of Kewadin, Michigan came in first place in the Boys 14-15 Division by 5 points at Muirfield Village. Josh, son of PGA Member Larry Lavely of A-Ga-Ming Golf Resort, scored 38 points in Driving, 35 points in Chipping and 60 points in Putting for a total of 133 points. Josh started his journey to Augusta at the Local Qualifier at Bay Meadows. Josh was able to secure second place which bought him a ticket to the Sub-regional at Battle Creek Country Club where Josh scored an AMAZING 166 points just to put this in perspective there is only a maximum of 225 points available. Josh is among the youngest within his age division making this win even more special. Josh is currently only 13 but will turn 14 before the National Championship at Augusta. Josh has performed well over the last three competitions and we are excited to see his scores amongst the other 10 boys 14-15 year olds at Augusta.

Each National Qualifier will receive a complementary trip for themselves and one parent to Augusta National. The Drive, Chip & Putt competitions are completely free to compete in.
