Beurmann wins Senior PGA Professional Championship

It was a beautiful two-day event in Harbor Springs, Michigan for the 2019 Senior PGA Professional Championship at Birchwood Farms Golf & Country Club.  We had 68 Michigan PGA Professionals tee it up on Monday and Tuesday to compete for the Michigan Senior PGA Championship Title as well as 9 qualifying spots for the 31st Senior PGA Professional National Championship presented by Cadillac and supported by both the Golf Channel and John Deere on October 3-6, 2019 at Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa in Austin, Texas.

Ron Beurmann from the Country Club of Jackson followed up his opening round of (-5)  67 with a round of (+1) 73 today that led him to win the tournament by one stroke. This is Ron’s second Michigan Senior PGA title.

Heading into the final round of the tournament there were ten players within five shots of the lead. Jim Dieters from Midland Country Club made a charge today tying for the low round of the day with a  70 finishing (-3) for the tournament, one shot back from Beurmann.  PGA Life Member Lee Houtteman shared this low round of the day with Dieters to finish at (-2) for the tournament and tied for 3rd with Scott Hebert from Traverse City Golf & Country Club. Scott had it to (-4) under for the tournament when he made the turn  but gave a couple back coming in on the tough back nine.

Joining Ron Beurmann and representing the Michigan Section at the Senior PGA Professional National Championship will be Jim Dieters from Midland Country Club, PGA Life Member, Lee Houtteman, Frank McAuliffe from Meadowbrook Country Club, Jeff Roth from The Boyne Golf Academy, John Pershern from Lochmoor Country Club, Kevin Muir from The Wyndgate, Brian Cairns from Fox Hills Learning Center, and PGA Life Member, Bob Elliot. Both Brian Cairns and Bob Elliot secured their spots for the tournament after a five-way playoff for the last two spots. Scott Hebert from Traverse City Golf and Country Club finished tied for third at (-2) for the tournament and is exempt from qualifying by winning a national club pro championship.

In the super senior 70 and older division, PGA life member Ron Applegate defeated Nick Berklich in a playoff to win his first Super Senior PGA title.

We would like to thank the Birchwood Farms Golf & Country Club for hosting this event for the sixth year in a row. The golf course was in pristine condition thanks to all the staff here at Birchwood.

We would also like to thank Doug Dingwall for his generous support of this event and the Michigan PGA Senior organization. Thank you to our national sponsors, Cadillac, John Deere, the PGA Tour, and the Golf Channel.
