Cairns and Champine grab early lead in the Adidas State Pro Am

Harbor Springs, MI – The tough windy conditions did not effect the team of professional Brian Cairns from the Fox Hills Learning center and his amateur partner Jeff Champine as they have grabbed the early lead in the Adidas State Pro Am with a sizzling round of (-10) under par 62 on the Boyne Highlands Heather Course.

116 teams teed off yesterday with half the field playing the Hills course and the other half playing the Heather course in this scratch best ball format at Boyne Highlands. The golf courses are in great shape and the strong winds and fast greens certainly provided a challenge in this first round.

Cairns and Champine really heated up on the back nine with 6 birdies and a eagle on route to a 28 on the back and (-10 under ) 62 total. Despite this great play they only have a two shot lead heading into the second round as the team of professional Dan Urban from Gull Lake CC and his amateur partner Mike Doan II fired a (-8) under par round of 64 on The Heather as well. These teams will move over to The Hills for the second and final round.

The low rounds of the day on the Hills Course belonged to a couple father son team combinations. The team of Jim Deiters from Midland Country Club and his son Austin had the low round of the day with a (-6) under par 66. This was one shot better than the team of professional Gary Smithson from Quail Ridge GC and his son Brad Smithson as they finished at (-5) under 67. These teams will be paired together as they move over to the Heather Course for round 2.

The leaders on both the Hills and the Heather will tee off at 1:00pm Tuesday. For complete results please click HERE.

We would like to thank our new sponsor this year in Adidas. The Adidas staff set up a great mobile pro shop onsite as all of the players received $100 to spend there.
