Janson/Ochsankehl & Beurmann / Dekeyser win the Midwest Golf & Turf Pro Am

Frankenmuth, MI – An exciting day wrapped up on Monday at the Midwest Pro Am hosted at The Fortress in Frankenmuth, MI. It was a great turn out with a field of 48 PGA professionals and the amateurs of their choice. These teams competed for a purse of $9,000 generously sponsored by the Midwest Golf & Turf. Each team played a best ball format which entered them into both a gross and net division.

At the end of play, Lynn Janson from The Legacy at Hastings and his amateur partner, Mark Ochsankehl would clinch the Gross Division with an outstanding sixty-three, nine strokes under par for the day. This was good enough for a one-shot victory over the team of professional Chad Kurmel from the Spartan Golf Academy and his amateur partner Dan Ellis.

Winners of the Net Division would be Ron Beurmann from Country Club of Jackson and his daughter, Melissa DeKeyser.  Competitor Jack Seltzer said, “Ron’s daughter, Melissa can play. With a few missed approach shots Melissa quickly recovered and was able to make up and down on some of the courses toughest holes.” Joking around at the end of it, Jack stated he would take Melissa over Ron any day.  Three teams finished one shot back including Jack Seltzer from the Seltzer Golf Academy and his amateur partner Doug Dingwall, Dan Urban from Gull Lake Country Club and his amateur Brian Schultz and the Kurmel / Ellis team.

Once again, we would like to thank all the participants for playing in the event and providing a fun filled competitive day of golf. Most importantly we would like to thank our Host Professional, Kyle Martin and the Superintendent Scott Sabgash along with his hard-working crew. You would have never guessed that the Fortress had seven to eight fallen trees from seventy mile per hours winds the day before. Scott and his crew spent over eight hours on the golf course with a chainsaw cleaning and clearing all the debris to restore the golf course to pristine condition for the event. Several players commented on how well the course was maintained and were shocked to hear there were fallen trees on multiple fairways just the day before. That goes to show the quality of The Fortress and its crew.

Finally, we would like to thank our sponsor, The Midwest Golf & Turf for their continued contributions to not only this event, but several others as well as to the Michigan Section. They really do make this event possible. To top off the perfect day, Zehnder’s provided their famously known barbeque chicken lunch concluding the event .
