Jim Deiters wins the 2015 Club Car Senior Open at Bedford Valley

   BATTLE CREEK – Jim Deiters, PGA Professional from Midland Country Club shot a second round of (-2) under par for a (-5) under total, good for a one shot victory and his first Club Car Senior Open title.

One of the largest fields to date with 129 golfers – including PGA Professionals, top amateur golfers, eight Michigan Golf Hall of Fame members and 10 past champions – all competed in the 2015 Club Car Senior Open  at Bedford Valley Golf Club this Tuesday and Wednesday.

After 9 holes today Deiters found himself 3 shots back of Randy Erskine. Randy shot a front nine 31 to put him at (-6) under for the tournament after 9 holes. Randy made a few bogeys on the back and finished tied for 3rd  at (-3) under for the tournament.

 After shooting even par on the front Deiters went on to birdie holes #10, #11 and #12. He gave one back with a bogey on 15, but made nice pars on #16, #17, #18 to finish at (-5) for the tournament. This was good for a one shot victory over amateur Bill Zylstra ,who shot a 69 today to finish second at (-4) under for the tournament.

Also finishing tied for 3rd at (-3) under for the tournament was PGA Teaching professional Brian Cairns from Fox Hills Learning Center and PGA Professional Frank McAuliffe from Meadowbrook Country Club.

In the Super Senior ( 65 and older) Division, John French, amateur from Bloomfield Hills MI was able to successfully defend his title. John followed up his opening round of 69 with a 75 today to put him at even par for the tournament, good for a 3 shot victory. Coming in second at 3 shots back, 147 total was professional Larry Clark from Traverse City, MI and amateur Doug Dingwall from Grand Blanc,  MI,

A big thanks to our host site Bedford Valley Golf Club. The  golf course maintenance crew did great job just to get the course playable Tuesday morning with over 2 inches of rain last night in less than an hour on Monday night.

   Bedford Valley Golf Club is part of the Gull Lake View collection of five courses near Battle Creek and Kalamazoo. It was a 2008-2009 Best Places to Play selection by Golf Digest and in 2010 was named the Michigan Golf Course of the Year by the Michigan Golf Course Owners Association.

   It was designed in 1965 by William Mitchell and purchased by the Scott Family of Gull Lake View in 1988. The classic parkland design is known locally as “The Big Course” and features big greens, bunkers and fairways lined with large oak trees.

Bedford Valley has hosted several of the state’s top tournaments including the Michigan Open, multiple Michigan Senior Opens, the Michigan Maxfli PGA Junior, the Michigan Publinx State Match Play and the NCAA Division III National Championship.
