Michigan PGA Professionals Take Part in LaFontaine Cadillac Outing

HIGHLAND TOWNSHIP – Several Michigan PGA golf professionals joined LaFontaine Cadillac VIPs in an outing Tuesday at Prestwick Village Golf Club, which in three weeks will host the 2014 Michigan Open Championship presented by LaFontaine Cadillac.

A PGA professional played in each group of the outing, and Tom Werkmeister of Kentwood, the defending Michigan Open champion who last year was the first amateur to win the state title since 1975, also played with a group.

“It’s a great facility and I’m looking forward to defending my championship,” Werkmeister said of the June 9-12 championship that will feature the top qualifying professional and amateur golfers who are Michigan residents.

“I have family that lives almost directly across the street from here, so that will make it extra special, too.

LaFontaine Cadillac is one of 18 LaFontaine Automotive Group franchises in nine locations across southeast Michigan, and will present the 2014 champion with a one-year lease on a new Cadillac ATS.

Prestwick, located just north of Milford and featuring a Ron Garl-designed championship course, will host the 2014 and 2015 Michigan Open championships.

“We’re excited  to have Prestwick Village Golf Club as the new host site for the 2014 Michigan Open Championship presented by LaFontaine Cadillac and we think it will prove to be an excellent test and provide a great championship atmosphere,” said Justin Phillips, the Michigan’s PGA’s director of tournament operations.

“We’re also excited to have a new partner in LaFontaine Cadillac as the presenting sponsor and we look forward to the new relationship and their active role in this championship.”

The Michigan Open, which will be played for the 97th time in 2014, is one of the state’s longest-running sports events. It was first played in 1916.

Presenting sponsor LaFontaine Cadillac, located at 4000 West Highland Road in Highland Township, features the famous “LaFontaine Family Deal,” which offers its customers more than the best price on a new or pre-owned vehicle. It also offers the attitude and approach to business developed and nurtured by the LaFontaine family since the company founding in 1980.

“LaFontaine Cadillac is proud to support our neighbor and partner Prestwick Village Golf Club in hosting the Michigan Open Championship,” said Kelley LaFontaine, owner and marketing manager. “We look forward to being part of the excitement generated by a championship featuring the best golfers in Michigan.”
