Roman / Roman win the rain shortened Sterling Cut Glass / Evolve Pro Assistant Championship

Traverse City, MI – With the forecast for rain all day and thunderstorms at times the teams knew going in that there was a chance the 36 hole Sterling Cut Glass /  Evolve Golf Pro Assistant Championship could be shortened to 18 holes. That is exactly what happened as The Bear at Grand Traverse Resort took on too much water Tuesday afternoon and became unplayable.

It was after the 3rd delay that the event was shortened to one round as all the teams had completed at least 18 holes by this point in this 36 hole continuous best ball event consisting of teams of one Professional and one Assistant from the same facility.

At the completion of one round we had 3 teams tied atop the leader board at 67 (-5).  The teams of Rick Slaght and Reed Black from Spring Meadows Country Club, Brian Dice and Mark Lahnala from Orchard Lake Country Club and the team of Jerry and Kyle Roman from Hidden River Golf & Casting Club would all head out for a sudden death playoff.

After playing the par 4 18th hole the teams from Orchard Lake and Hidden River advanced with pars. By then making par at the 1st hole the team of Jerry and Kyle Roman were able to capture their second Pro – Assistant Championship title.

38 teams competed this year in the Sterling Cut Glass / Evolve Golf Pro Assistant Championship at Grand Traverse Resort – The Bear. We would like to thank our sponsors this year – Sterling Cut Glass and Evolve Golf for their support of this event and for being onsite Tuesday.

We would also like to thank Grand Traverse Resort for all of their hard work in hosting this event . The golf course maintenance crew did a great job just keeping the course playable for most of the day to get the 18 holes in.
