Rush & Meekhof victorious at Hawk Hollow

Bath, MI – Hawk Hollow Golf Club was host to our first 2015 Boys Fall Series tournament this past Saturday, September 19th, 2015. Thirty-three juniors participated as blustery weather conditions made for a challenging 18 holes of golf.

In the Boys 16-18 division, Owen Rush, of Charlotte, posted a tournament low 70(-2) to take first place honors. Rush finished the front nine 1 over(37) as the the wind peaked in intensity. After the turn, Rush heated up by recording 4 birdies, 4 par’s, and held himself to one bogey on the back nine to shoot 3 under(33). This marks four wins on the year for the 2015 Player of the Year. Rush, who also won the Tour Championship this past August, has appeared to have found a late season surge to close out the 2015 calendar year.

Following Rush and finishing in second was Ian Helm, out of Dewitt. After finishing fourth at the year end Tour Championship, Helm continued his steady play that was on display throughout the year. His front nine score of 3 over(39) kept him in contention for first at the turn. Rounding out the top three was Onsted’s Joshua Jeffords, who shoot 4 over (40) on both the front and back nine. That back nine 40 proved essential to his third place finish as Eric Nunn, of Dewitt, also shot an 8 over 80, but lost in a scorecard playoff to Jeffords by two strokes.

The Boys 13-15 division was a close battle through the front nine as the top six competitors were within two shots of each other. After the turn, Eastermanville’s August Meekhof took off and carded a back nine 1-under 35, giving him a tournament total of 75 (+3). This was Meekhof’s second victory of the year as he was just as dominant in July at The Mines Golf Course. Meekhof posted the second lowest back nine of the day out of all thirty three competitors, which included one birdie and 8 pars.

Runner-up Player of the Year Michael Kee, of Howell, finished second with an 81 (+9). Kee matched the fields trend by posting a lower back nine, as conditions became more favorable as the day continued. This is Kee’s sixth podium finish, which includes 2 victories during the summer season. Tour newcomer Grady Morlock, of Adrian, came into the event having never played Hawk Hollow, which makes his round of 82 (+10) even more impressive. His round of 42-40 included 11 pars, including five straight between holes 8-12.

The MPGA Junior Tour would like to thank the host venue Hawk Hollow for all their help and support of this event as well as the handful of volunteers who made the event possible. We would like to extend our graditude to tour sponsors Jason Guss Golf Academy as well as Pepsi, for supporting our tour throughout the 2015 calender year.
